What does FoWHL do?

Since forming in March 1998 to campaign against the closure, or downgrading of the branch (both of which were considered), FoWHL has concentrated on staging events to raise both awareness and funds. Past speakers have included Doris Lessing, Anna Raeburn, Michael Wood, Robert Elms, Alan Powers and Zadie Smith. We have also held a series of readings by local actors, including Imelda Staunton, Phyllida Law, Jim Carter, Edward Petherbridge, Emily Richard, Michael Jenn and Paul Brightwell; all local residents and library users. We are always looking for interesting guests, and look forward to hosting evenings with Fay Weldon (May 15) and Stephen Fry (July 10). We have a letter box in the library which allows users to post comments and suggestions, which we then take up with the library staff. We also issue four newsletters per year.
