The Performance of Holborn Library
Holborn Library is the second largest library in Camden. Historically, although it is considerably smaller than the Swiss Cottage Central Library, it has performed some of the functions of a central library in the south of the borough. However, several decades of underinvestment have eroded its ability to carry out these tasks and its basic performance is now below that of several other libraries in the borough (see chart).
The chart shows the total number of issues from and the number of visitors to the five busiest libraries in Camden. The overall performance of Holborn Library appears to be the worst of this group. However, Holborn was the only library in the group with 41 opening hours per week (until 19/01/09). All other members of the group had 49 opening hours per week. Perhaps Holborn is not so much a failing library but rather a library manfully struggling to overcome its disadvantages.
