We are an independent group recently formed to represent library users in Hackney.

Membership is free and open to all.

We campaign for improvements in library services, in recognition of the vitally important role that libraries play in the provision of diverse educational, information and recreational needs.

Our aims
We need a wide range of library users to join Friends of Hackney Libraries because:
Library users need to have a say in the future development of their libraries.
Hackney library service needs to know what we think about the present state of libraries and our views on what to do to improve them in the future.

Here are just three of the groups objectives:
To be a part of the consultation process for all new proposals by the library service.
To promote libraries as an integral part of the education system in Hackney.
To ensure that all Hackney libraries are reaching the National Libraries Standards set by the government.

Keep informed about issues affecting libraries in Hackney
We have an email group and a newsletter to keep people informed. We hold regular meetings and make representations to councillors and the Council about library matters.
